Arizona educational institutions offer programs with an emphasis in biomedical sciences, precision medicine and health professions. Arizona State University Logo

Arizona State University (ASU), the most innovative university for nine years running, has bioscience programs that seek nature-inspired solutions in health, sustainability and security for global impact. The Biodesign Institute at ASU is a force of biologists, physicists, chemists, engineers and mathematicians crossing boundaries to find cures, remove toxins from the atmosphere and defend against cyber attacks. Arizona State University is home to the Virginia G. Piper Center for Personalized Diagnostics, which uses a plasmid repository to develop early warning for those at risk of major illnesses.

The University of Arizona (UArizona) is a leader in health sciences. The College of Medicine partnered with Banner Health to provide students and the Tucson community with an on-site teaching and research hospital, the University Medical Center. Over at the BIO5 Institute, researchers are tackling challenges in new ways by intersecting disciplines. In the last five years, BIO5-affiliated research has garnered $363 million in grants and gifts. This year, UArizona partnered with the State of Arizona to provide 31 antibody testing sites across the state, in addition to available testing for hospital employees, health care professionals, corrections officers and child safety workers.

Northern Arizona University (NAU) is recognized as among the leading research campus across many disciplines and academics. NAU is located in the center of Flagstaff, which ranks as one of the best towns to live in throughout the nation. Recently, NAU launched NAU Heath, a forward-thinking initiative aimed at improving health outcomes for all Arizonans, particularly those in rural, Indigenous and underserved communities. 

The Phoenix Bioscience Core is a 30-acre life sciences innovation district in the heart of Downtown Phoenix. Home to the highest concentration of research scientists in the state, the PBC’s anchor institutions include Arizona’s three public research universities, leading genomics pioneers including the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), part of the City of Hope; the International Genomics Consortium; Exact Sciences; several of Phoenix’s major health care systems, such as Banner Health, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Dignity Health and Valleywise Health; and a growing number of emerging life science companies.

Creighton University opened its Phoenix campus in 2021. The 195,000 square-foot facility offers students an immersive and collaborative environment to gain essential patient-care experience. Creighton has a partnership with Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Valleywise Health and District Medical Group for immersive clinical training with knowledgeable practitioners.

Bioscience High School

 

The Phoenix Bioscience High School offers a fully integrated curriculum with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The campus is located in the heart of the downtown Phoenix Biomedical Campus, benefiting from the innovation ecosystem. Students at the school develop their own pathways courses tailored to their interests including anatomy and physiology, epidemiology, biotechnology, engineering and forensics.

Maricopa County Community College District
The Maricopa County Community College District is an accredited community college organization with ten campus locations throughout Maricopa County. Programs include biotechnology and molecular biosciences designed to give entry-level laboratory technicians skills for applications in academic, industrial and commercial research settings.
